They said to me,
“Those who survived the exile and are back in the province
are in great trouble and disgrace.
The wall of Jerusalem is broken down,
and its gates have been burned with fire.”
Nehemiah 1:3
We are blessed to live in one of the wealthiest counties in America. From outward appearances, everything looks great. But emotionally and spiritually we “are in great trouble and disgrace.”
Douglas County has the fifth highest rate of teen suicides in the nation! According to Gallup Inc., Colorado is one of the least religious states in America, ranked 37th out of 50. The Colorado Springs Gazette reported that Colorado is in the bottom 10 states for church attendance with only 25% of people attending church weekly. The Barna Group ranks Denver as #81 out of the top 100 cities in America for being “Bible-minded.” City-Data reports that 49.2% of people in Colorado are “nones” – or have no religious affiliation at all!
These statistics – no – these realities – should break our hearts. The challenge today is for us to discern the great spiritual battle raging over our community – and to begin to pray for God to help us be a part of fighting back against the enemy.
