“I have learned what it means to receive Gods grace, and am continuously trying to extend it in small way to others. It truly has been a testimony of beauty from ashes.”
When I was 24, a couple years out of college, I found myself in an extremely abusive relationship that ended in an unintended pregnancy. I found myself at rock bottom, after years of making bad decisions.
I was blessed to be raised in a loving Christian home, and had very supportive parents. They had me meet with the pastor of their church and he ended up forming a small prayer group for me. I met with these women every week for the entirety of my pregnancy. They laid hands on me and lifted every fear to God. I was now faced with an impossible decision- whether to parent this child, or place him for adoption.
After months of prayer, I chose what I thought would be the best possible life for him- to place him into the arms of two parents who could give him everything he needed from the start, the most important being a mother AND a father. I was able to meet my sons parents about a month before he was born, and we started to form an incredible bond.
My son, Skyler Elijah, was born on January 25th, 2014. The moment I met him, it felt like my heart shattered into a million pieces. I spent the next four days in the hospital memorizing every inch of him. I spent every minute I could telling him “why” and how much I love him and always will. I prepared my heart to be completely broken. Gods presence was so palpable in that hospital room.
The last day there, his parents came into the room. As soon as I handed him to his mom, I felt God’s Grace pouring over all three of us.
Over the next few months, and now years, we have ended up becoming incredibly close. They have welcomed me into their family with open arms, and I have been able to a part of Skyler’s life in a way I couldn’t have imagined in my wildest dreams. From the very earliest days, God has opened incredible doors for me to be able to share my story around the country and across many different platforms.
I now am married and we have two beautiful children together. They both have a special relationship with Skyler as well. It’s not the easiest relationship- in fact, it’s pretty messy at times. But somehow, God always brings it back to Him and His redemption through it all.
The Lord truly saved my life. Without all this brokenness, I never would have picked myself up and started my life over. I have learned what it means to receive Gods grace, and am continuously trying to extend it in small way to others. It truly has been a testimony of beauty from ashes.
